YOUR NURSING ROADMAP — AUGUST 10, 2026

Meeting the minimum grade in every prerequisite is not the same as meeting the requirements to apply.

Example transcript: a C in Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology gives a 2.0 science prerequisite GPA, below a 2.5 program minimum.

PREREQUISITE REQUIREMENTS

A C or Better Doesn't Always Mean You're Eligible to Apply

One of the most common misunderstandings we see is students assuming that earning the minimum required grade in every prerequisite means they meet the requirements to apply.

But your individual course grades may only be one part of the requirement.

Depending on the California ADN program, you may also need to meet:

  • A minimum grade in each prerequisite
  • A minimum overall prerequisite GPA
  • A minimum science prerequisite GPA

For example, a program may require a C or better in Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology, while also requiring a minimum science prerequisite GPA.

That means you could earn a C or better in all three science courses and still not meet the minimum science GPA required to apply.

Some programs only require a minimum grade in each prerequisite. Others require a minimum grade plus an overall prerequisite GPA, a science prerequisite GPA, or both.

Before applying, check more than the minimum grade listed for each course. Make sure you meet every GPA requirement for each ADN program on your list.
